Meaningful risk-adjusted infection rates for caesarean section (C-section, childbirth) are currently available from 25 Swiss hospitals for the current period. A total of 5,987 patients were followed in these hospitals. The average hospital infection rate for caesarean section is 2.7%.
Spital Visp (Hôpital du Valais / Spital Wallis) has the lowest risk-adjusted infection rate for caesarean section (0.0% hospital-acquired infections). The following 3 hospitals / clinics have significantly better results (i.e. lower infection rates) for caesarean section:
6 hospitals show significantly worse results for caesarean section (i.e. higher infection rates). The highest infection rate observed in a hospital for caesarean section is 6.6%.
Cesarean section (C-section) rates in Switzerland are high by international standards. While life-saving when medically necessary, the rise in elective C-sections remains a subject of debate. Benefits include predictability and the avoidance of certain birth-related injuries. However, these must be weighed against risks such as longer recovery times, wound infections, and potential complications in future pregnancies. For the infant, there is a slightly higher risk of temporary respiratory adjustment issues. Click here for more information. In Switzerland, almost all maternity hospitals have extensive experience with this routine procedure.
Measured as the ratio of expected and observed numbers of infections after certain types of surgery.
Strengths:
Infections are risky and associated with more distress. A low infection rate is an indicator of good hygiene and a high quality treatment process. The infection rates are risk adjusted by Swissnoso using three additional measurements. This elaborate form of risk adjustment fulfills high scientific standards.
Limits:
Unfortunately, infection rates are not available for all interventions. It is not sure that results are transferable to similar interventions. Also, infection rates are only meaningful when a sufficient number of cases is reached. Especially with interventions with a low risk of infections the needed number of cases is very high and is only reached by large hospitals. For small hospitals it is often not possible to give a meaningful statement (while small case numbers are per se unfavorable, especially with complex interventions).
Midwife team top/friendly. Caesarean section was necessary. Epidural intravenous (can prove birth report). Consequence: Baby in neonatology - I couldn't see it again until 17 hours later. Doctor anesthesiologist: where people work, mistakes happen - thank you! Invoice for deductible neonatology followed!!
About the surgery:
Caesarean section. Previously intravenous epidural anesthesia - consequence: baby had to go to neonatal unit - I couldn't see it for 17 hours Anesthesiologist: where people work, mistakes happen... Possibly. would an APOLOGY have been more appropriate?! The top: Invoice for neonatology deductible..
Traumatizing, the well-being of me as a woman giving birth was not taken into account at all, had to deliver without any self-determination, they break all 10 points of the Nuremberg Code. I didn't sign for augmentation and ventilation, just cesarean and epidural. My will was ignored.
I had my daughter by caesarean section and would only recommend this hospital to every woman. I had the best doctors and the best midwives. I will never forget Mrs. Zürcher & Mrs. Arizona. Due to the pandemic, I cannot visit them just to say thank you again for everything ..
About the surgery:
Caesarean sections: super professional staff, my scar is beautiful as if my daughter was 8 years old and not 8 months! Excellent

After a caesarean section, my wife has been complaining of pain when urinating since Wednesday. On Friday she was then discharged home without further checks.
On Saturday, then again going to the emergency where a kidney infection was found.
This is not only negligent and avoidable

The whole team was very professional. I had a difficult labor process that ended with a caesarean section. My husband and I were very happy that we chose Hirslanden Aarau. I felt very safe from my arrival to my discharge.

Not optimally cared for at birth. Due to the midwife's lack of time, we were not looked after 1:1. The doctor was also not competent. PDA wasn't set optimally either. In the end, a caesarean section was done because unfortunately no effort was made to give birth naturally

The third cesarean section was performed in a disastrous way, scar had holes after removal of the bandage, strong adhesions and badly sewn. Nurses on the ward very unfriendly and stressed out. The doctor did not show up on the ward once
