Meaningful risk-adjusted infection rates for appendectomy, adults are currently available from 16 Swiss hospitals for the current period. A total of 2,125 patients were followed in these hospitals. The average hospital infection rate for appendectomy, adults is 2.4%.
Spital Bülach has the lowest risk-adjusted infection rate for appendectomy, adults (0.5% hospital-acquired infections). 3 hospitals show significantly worse results for appendectomy, adults (i.e. higher infection rates). The following 2 hospitals / clinics have even highly significantly worse results for appendectomy, adults:
The highest infection rate observed in a hospital for appendectomy, adults is 11.1%.
The removal of an inflamed appendix is one of the most common operations. However, recent studies suggest that in some cases antibiotic treatment may make the operation unnecessary. Unnecessary appendectomies, where a normal appendix is found histologically after surgery, are not uncommon. Good diagnostics can reduce the rate of such misdiagnosis. In Switzerland, the operation is performed more frequently than in other countries. There are many hospitals with sufficient experience to perform the operation. In most cases, minimally invasive surgery is now used. The advantages are many: smaller scars, generally lower surgical risks, faster recovery, better diagnostic possibilities. For this reason, open surgery is being used less and less, although the surgeon's experience with the method must also be taken into account.

About the indicator «Infection rates»
Measured as the ratio of expected and observed numbers of infections after certain types of surgery.
Strengths:
Infections are risky and associated with more distress. A low infection rate is an indicator of good hygiene and a high quality treatment process. The infection rates are risk adjusted by Swissnoso using three additional measurements. This elaborate form of risk adjustment fulfills high scientific standards.
Limits:
Unfortunately, infection rates are not available for all interventions. It is not sure that results are transferable to similar interventions. Also, infection rates are only meaningful when a sufficient number of cases is reached. Especially with interventions with a low risk of infections the needed number of cases is very high and is only reached by large hospitals. For small hospitals it is often not possible to give a meaningful statement (while small case numbers are per se unfavorable, especially with complex interventions).
Emergency admission: taken seriously as a patient and very well looked after
Operation: always well informed, friendly, well structured and goal-oriented

Very caring and competent staff that allows you to recover in a pleasant environment, where the patient's wishes are also taken into account. I congratulate the team on the 6th floor for their solidarity. I would choose the hospital in Visp again at any time.

My 3-day stay was to my complete satisfaction. Above all, the staff was incredibly nice, from the ER to the wards. Sensational! I was very impressed!!!
About the surgery:
Ruptured appendix but with a lot of luck it was in a bubble so that the surgeon could "only" take it out and he didn't have to work on my stomach any more. Here, too, I simply received a lot of information, so that I felt extremely well looked after. (surgeon: Dr. Alexandre Descloux)

I was taken to the Linth hospital as an emergency and was immediately given competent and comprehensive care. Doctors, nursing staff and domestic staff were extremely friendly, caring and extremely service-oriented from the moment we entered until we left. I can definitely recommend Spital Linth.

My daughter came to Hirslanden with an emergency due to acute appendicitis.
Since she was unfortunately not a private patient, she was referred to the eth university hospital on the grounds that it is not financially worthwhile. Her pain was inhuman! Unbelievable ...
