Gall bladder resection (cholecystectomy), infection rate
Meaningful risk-adjusted infection rates for gall bladder resection (cholecystectomy) are currently available from 15 Swiss hospitals for the current period. A total of 3,334 patients were followed in these hospitals. The average hospital infection rate for gall bladder resection is 1.8%.
Spital Olten (Solothurner Spitäler AG) has the lowest risk-adjusted infection rate for gall bladder resection (0.0% hospital-acquired infections).Spital Olten (Solothurner Spitäler AG) performed significantly better in gall bladder resection (i.e. lower infection rate). One hospital shows significantly worse results for gall bladder resection (i.e. higher infection rates). The highest infection rate observed in a hospital for gall bladder resection is 7.3%.
The surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is performed frequently in Switzerland by international standards. While usually prompted by gallstones, there is ongoing discussion regarding the necessity of the procedure in some cases. In addition to standard surgical risks, 20% to 50% of patients experience persistent or new symptoms after surgery, known as "post-cholecystectomy syndrome." It may therefore be advisable to seek an independent second opinion before proceeding. If you opt for surgery, many hospitals offer extensive experience. Today, the procedure is mostly performed laparoscopically (minimally invasive), where the surgeon’s expertise with this specific technique is a key factor.
Measured as the ratio of expected and observed numbers of infections after certain types of surgery.
Strengths:
Infections are risky and associated with more distress. A low infection rate is an indicator of good hygiene and a high quality treatment process. The infection rates are risk adjusted by Swissnoso using three additional measurements. This elaborate form of risk adjustment fulfills high scientific standards.
Limits:
Unfortunately, infection rates are not available for all interventions. It is not sure that results are transferable to similar interventions. Also, infection rates are only meaningful when a sufficient number of cases is reached. Especially with interventions with a low risk of infections the needed number of cases is very high and is only reached by large hospitals. For small hospitals it is often not possible to give a meaningful statement (while small case numbers are per se unfavorable, especially with complex interventions).
During the planned gallbladder operation (routine operation/stay 2-3 days), the rectum was perforated and peritonitis resulted, which was followed by 1 emergency and 2 follow-up operations and, as a result, a 4-week rehabilitation stay was necessary

Highly professional hospital, very good surgery, good care and follow-up, beautiful rooms with a view, but that is not decisive for my very good reference, it is the doctors and the nursing staff
